Murphy model A46 Valve Radio

Murphy A46 radio. Walnut cabinet with a rounded top, an oval striped speaker cloth above a small black tuning scale, a large knob each side and two small switches

The Murphy A46 is a British valve radio introduced in March 1938, just eighteen months before the outbreak of the Second World War. It is particularly interesting because it combines excellent pre-war British industrial design with sophisticated radio engineering for its price. The A46 was designed to provide good reception, reliability and sound quality without unnecessary complications.
