The Tesla Talisman 308U is one of the most recognisable valve radios produced in post-war Czechoslovakia. Manufactured mainly between 1953 and 1958, it is especially admired for its distinctive streamlined Bakelite cabinet, combining Art Deco influences with 1950s industrial design.
The 308U was produced by Tesla Bratislava and Tesla Orava, both in what is now Slovakia. It was an extraordinarily successful radio. Historical records suggest more than one million examples were manufactured, making it one of the most widespread Czechoslovak radio receivers of its era.
The Talisman family included several earlier models, but the 308U became particularly well known because of its striking shape and relatively compact dimensions.
The service manual for this radio is available in the Members’ Area.
